Vila 8 is a weekend retreat for a Tokyo-based family, situated in the highland forests of Tateshina. The compact dwelling maximizes its modest footprint through efficient spatial organization and multi-functional furnishings.

The building lifts above the sloping terrain on slender steel columns, minimizing site disturbance and creating a covered outdoor area beneath the living spaces.

Large operable panels transform the interior into a semi-outdoor pavilion during summer months, while a central wood stove provides warmth in winter.
